Roommates, when it was announced in early 2021 that classic 90s film ‘The Best Man’ was being turned into a limited series, fans were beside themselves with excitement—and now thanks to Morris Chestnut, they have a brand new update. On his Instagram account, Morris Chestnut posted the official first photo on set filming ‘The Best Man’ series alongside director Malcolm D. Lee.
‘The Best Man’ limited series is one step closer to becoming a reality, as filming has finally started, and franchise star Morris Chestnut gave fans the first look. Posing with director Malcolm D. Lee, Morris was all smiles as the two took the time out to pose for the camera between shooting.
Back in October of last year, star Nia Long briefly spoke about how happy she was the gang was getting back together again for more. “I think we’re all looking forward to it and I know Malcolm [Lee] is working really hard to get the scripts to where he wants them and to give the audience what they want. People have been asking for this for a long time and now they get to see us weekly. So, it’ll be nice,” she said at the time.
As we previously reported, ‘The Best Man’ is officially getting the TV streaming treatment, as a 10-episode limited series has been ordered by the newest entry into the streaming service arena, Peacock. Titled ‘The Best Man: The Final Chapters,’ writer/director Malcolm D. Lee and all of the original cast members will be returning.
The original cast, including Nia Long, Taye Diggs, Morris Chestnut, Terrence Howard, Sana Lathan, Regina Hall, Melissa De Sousa and Harold Perrineau reportedly just closed on seven-figure deals to reprise their roles in the series, which is shooting for a September 2021 start date. The only missing original cast member is Monica Calhoun whose character died in the sequel, ‘The Best Man Holiday’ in 2013.
The series will catch up with Harper, Robyn, Jordan, Lance, Quentin, Shelby, Candace, and Murch as relationships evolve and past grievances resurface in the unpredictable stages of midlife crisis meets midlife renaissance.
