Mo’Nique has taken to Instagram to respond to D.L. Hughley, who lashed out at the comedian over her interview on ‘Club Shay Shay’ this week.
To catch you up to speed, Mo’Nique sat down for a three-hour-long conversation on Shannon Sharpe‘s podcast, which was released on Wednesday (February 7).
During one part of their chat, Mo’Nique touched on her falling out with Hughley back in 2022 over a contract dispute at a Detroit gig.
She said they already hadn’t been cool before this incident, claiming he had been talking bad about her for years.
But on this particular night, Hughley had refused to hit the stage if event organizers let Mo’Nique close the stand-up special.
He alleged that his memo listed him as the show’s headliner.
However, Mo’Nique told Sharpe that her contract stated otherwise, prompting a huge spat to erupt between the pair on social media at the time.
Things turned so ugly and personal that it even led Mo’Nique to bring up Hughley’s daughter, Ryan Nicole Shepard, a sexual assault survivor.
She boldly questioned why Hughley had a lot to say about other people but “won’t call out the name of the person that violated his daughter.”
Mo’Nique later apologized, and the two quietly moved on from the drama.
But after mentioning his name, Hughley responded to her interview in a lengthy rant.
He said that the reason why trouble supposedly followed Mo’Nique wherever she went was because she was the problem.
Additionally, Hughley accused Mo’Nique of telling a lie that continues to leave him furious.
Hughley claimed that Mo’Nique once told fans he watched while his daughter was being sexually assaulted.
“Mo’Nique brought that sh** up and told the world that I allowed my daughter to be raped in front of me. The lying motherf****r.”
The ‘Precious’ actress wasted no time setting her iPhone up in what appeared to be her office to set the record straight on what really happened.
Joined by her husband and manager, Sidney Hicks, the 56-year-old addressed Hughley’s comments about his daughter.
The 56-year-old implied that the information about his daughter was already public because Hughley brought it to light. Not Mo’Nique.
But she disputed Hughley’s claim.
“D.L. Hughley, that’s your conscience talking to you, brother; I never said that. And I want to be clear about something else. Never would I try to do anything to harm any of your babies because we got babies, too. However, what I was saying to your daughter — and to the other daughters out there — I know what it’s like for your daddy to know you’ve been touched and he not protect you.”
Furthermore, the comedian also responded to Charlamagne’s recent apology to her.
