Missy Elliott Gives Hip-Hop Its Flowers While Speaking On The Honor
The “Get Ur Freak On” rapper shared her commentary during a sit-down with Robin Roberts for Good Morning America.
Missy Elliott said that “words cannot describe” how honored she is to receive the recognition. She added that the reality hasn’t “clicked” yet, as a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction “seems so far out of reach” as a hip-hop artist.
After acknowledging that she’s being inducted as Rock Hall’s first female rapper during the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, Missy remarked, “No matter what people say, the hip-hop world is something special and unique.”
We should add that Missy Elliott stepped into The Shade Room‘s comment section to note, “God is good. I am Humbly GRATEFUL for those women before me…They kicked down doors & their shoulders I lean on.”
News Of Her Induction Came Earlier This Year: “This Door Is Now OPEN”
As The Shade Room reported, news of Missy Elliott’s induction broke back in May. Notably, this made Missy the first female rapper to receive the honor.
She acknowledged the news on X (formerly known as Twitter), noting, “This door is now OPEN.” IKTR!
Missy Elliot also wrote, “I have cried all morning because I am GRATEFUL thank you.”
I want to say this is HUGE not for just me but all my Sisters in HIPHOP this door is now OPEN to showcase the hard work & what many of us contribute to MUSIC. I have cried all morning because I am GRATEFUL thank you @rockhall & all on the committee & Supafriends💜 https://t.co/agHv7puauj

Shortly after, she opened up in another tweet, noting that she would sometimes be “crush[ed]” by others’ negative commentary about her. Nonetheless, Missy acknowledged that her “decades of work” speaks for itself, adding, “I am HUMBLED.”
