There is no doubt that Missy Elliott is a game-changer, and has had a tremendous impact on the music industry. Many people have recognized Missy for her contributions to the game, but now she is stepping back and acknowledging all that she’s done so far.
On Monday, Missy collected 10 of her most iconic music videos and said, “When I think of how many people thought I was crazy back then and what I went through to break that wall down😩 I look at my videos & songs now & see how they CHANGED THE GAME & allowed ppl to be different now in this era 🙌🏾 If I had of listened to the naysayers boy oh boy no1 would of ever seen these MASTERPIECES.”
She continued to thank some heavy hitters such as Slyvia Rhone, Hype Williams, Dave Meyers, Timbaland, as well as Atlantic Records and Elektra Records for providing her with support throughout her career.
As previously reported, Missy Elliott was recognized for all of her amazing work when she was honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 Video Music Awards (VMAs).
Prior to that, she was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. At the time, during her speech, she emotionally said, “Every time I come up to a podium … even with all the work that I’ve done, I don’t know, and I’m assuming it’s just God, I don’t know why I am here. I want to say one thing to the writers, to the upcoming writers, ‘Do not give up.’ We all go through writer’s block. Sometimes you just have to walk away from a record and come back to it. But don’t give up because I’m standing here. And this is big for hip-hop, too.”
