Roommates, it is with deep sorrow we report about the passing of Cheslie Kryst, who won the Miss USA title in 2019.
According to TMZ, police responded to an emergency call around 7:13 am Sunday to Cheslie’s midtown apartment building on 42nd Street. She was pronounced deceased when authorities arrived at the scene. Police are investigating the incident and reportedly believe she may have jumped from the building. She was reportedly last seen on a 29th-floor terrace.
According to the New York Post, police reportedly said that Cheslie left behind a note where she left everything to her mother. However, there was no explanation for her passing.
Early Sunday, Cheslie made her final Instagram post. She shared a photo of herself, and said in her caption, “May this day bring you rest and peace.”
Outside of her pageant title and being a lawyer, viewers were able to see Cheslie on their televisions daily as a correspondent on Extra.
Extra spoke out about Cheslie’s passing and said, “Our hearts are broken. Cheslie was not just a vital part of our show, she was a beloved part of our ‘Extra’ family and touched the entire staff. Our deepest condolences to all her family and friends.”
They also shared an official statement from Cheslie’s family, who said, “Her great light was one that inspired others around the world with her beauty and strength. She cared, she loved, she laughed and she shined. Cheslie embodied love and served others, whether through her work as an attorney fighting for social justice, as Miss USA and as a host on EXTRA. But most importantly, as a daughter, sister, friend, mentor and colleague – we know her impact will live on.”
We are sending our deepest condolences to Cheslie’s loved ones.
