#Roommates, whether you’re a sports fan or not, most of us likely remember the infamous 1997 boxing match between heavyweight champions Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield that was cut short due to Tyson biting off a chunk of Holyfield’s ear. Well it’s been almost 25 years and surprisingly, Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield have decided to come together in the ring once more for a rematch that now has a confirmed date.
According to @TMZ_TV, earlier this week reports were swirling that Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield’s long-awaited rematch wasn’t happening after negotiations reportedly fell through—well fast forward just 24 hours and it appears that the rematch between the two is back on, courtesy of an official date.
Mike Tyson, 54, confirmed during a recent Instagram live interview that his fight with Evander Holyfield, 58, will proceed as scheduled, now with a set date of May 29th. “I just want everybody to know the fight is on with me and Holyfield. Holyfield’s a humble man I know that and he’s a man of God but I’m God’s man. Listen, I’m going to be successful May 29.” The fight will be held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Previously, Holyfield’s manager Kris Lawrence, said that the negotiations fell apart due to conflicts of money. “We were negotiating in good faith all along and it appears we just ended up wasting our time,” Lawrence said. He also alleged that Tyson’s camp wanted a much larger cut of the profits and turned down a $25 million guarantee.
In other Mike Tyson news, it was just confirmed that Oscar winner Jamie Foxx will play him in the forthcoming biopic of his life.
