Here’s What Miguel Dominguez Did
According to PEOPLE, the Southampton Town Police Department released a statement via Facebook on Friday, August 2. The statement explained that at 10:16 a.m. that morning, a dispatcher received a call from Dominguez.
The child reportedly explained that his aunt was in labor. La Voce di New York adds that Dominguez’s aunt is reportedly 22 years old.
“Public Safety Dispatcher Christopher Brenner immediately began giving the boy clear instructions on how to help his aunt with the childbirth,” the police department’s statement reads. “While on the phone with PSD Brenner giving birthing/medical instructions, and the assistance of the cool-headed actions of a 12-year-old child, the mother successfully delivered a healthy baby boy.”
According to Riverhead News-Review, the outlet interviewed Dimoniguez, who is actually 13 years old.
“The officer told me I had to take care of my aunt,” he told the outlet.
Here’s How The 13-Year-Old New York Boy Kept a Cool Head
According to the police department’s statement, “just as the baby was being born,” fellow officer James C. Cavanagh arrived at the home.
Officer Cavanaugh told Riverhead News-Review that at that point, “it was literally an active birth happening.”
“So I ran back to my car to let the ambulance know that there’s an active birth happening and grab my medical equipment,” the officer recalled to the outlet.
When he returned, “the baby was wrapped in a blanket.”
“Shortly thereafter, Flanders Northampton Volunteer ambulance arrived, took over care of the mother and child, and transported them to Peconic Bay Medical Center,” the statement continues. Thanks to professionalism and diligence of all involved both mother and child are resting and healthy at the hospital.”
According to the Riverhead News-Review, the incident was not the first time Dominguez had delivered a child. He reportedly had “a similar experience” with another family member who went into labor “several” years ago.
“I’ve done this before,” the 13-year-old reportedly told the outlet.
A Nurse In Florida Previously Delivered Her Own Baby In A Surprise Birth
The 13-year-old’s heroic actions are just as surprising as those of a Florida nurse who delivered her baby in a surprise at-home birth. As The Shade Room previously reported, Dejanique Milligan delivered her own baby boy after she went into labor on May 9.
The mother explained that in the early hours of the morning, she went to use the bathroom. However, instead of relieving herself, she felt the opposite effect and ended up crawling to another room in her house before she got the shock of her life.
