Our Forever First Lady Michelle Obama shared her candid thoughts on America’s current racial climate during the United State of Women Summit this weekend.
She said no one person can fix racism in an entire country and we shouldn’t looking at President Obama has a savior.
“Barack’s presidency didn’t fix racism,” she said, according to The Hill.. “We need to stop looking for a savior.”
She went on to say that “all of us here in the room are the answer to our own problems.”
“It is not finding the one right person that can save us from ourselves,” she added. “It’s us.”
Mrs. Obama made sure to let everyone know that this is important work. “So many of us have gotten ourselves at the table, but we’re still too grateful to be at the table to really shake it up,” she said. “I think if we want our daughters to dream bigger than we did, then we have more work to do… Because of them, we can’t give up.”
