Michael Jordan and his Jordan Brand are stepping up to the plate to do their part when it comes to fighting for racial equality and social justice.
On Friday, the Jordan Brand company released an official statement where they announced their $100 million donation. The money will be donated over the next 10 years to organizations that are working to ensure racial equality, social justice, and great access to education.
The official statement reads, “Jordan Brand is more than one man. It has always been a family. We represent a proud family that has overcome obstacles, fought against discrimination in communities worldwide, and that works every day to erase the stain of racism and the damage of injustice.”
The statement continued to say, “Black lives matter. This isn’t a controversial statement. Until the ingrained racism that allows our country’s institutions to fail is completely eradicated, we will remain committed to protecting and improving the lives of Black people.
According to Forbes. Jordan Brand president Craig Williams said in a statement, “There is still more work for us to do to drive real impact for the black community. We embrace the responsibility.” Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand will give $50 million each to fulfill the $100 million donation.
The announcement of this donation makes it the largest corporate donation to the cause in the wake of George Floyd’s death.
Following the death of George Floyd, there have been millions of people across the world that have been protesting for justice to be served in his case, and all of the other cases that include the death of black people that have occurred in this country at the hands of police officers and white supremacists.
