On Monday, Michael Brown’s mother, Lezley McSpadden, participated in a panel discussion at Howard University.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the panel focused on the issues that were raised due to Michael Brown’s death.
While on the panel, McSpadden was urged to mention her possible candidacy by Benjamin Crump, her family’s attorney, and also another panelist.
She said, “What I’m contemplating is running for City Council of Ferguson. There are several people back home that are willing to help me get that going and make sure that I’m treated right.”
Crump added, “What a legacy that would be — elected to the City Council and supervising the same police department that killed Michael Brown.”
McSpadden also spoke about her achievement of returning to school to get her high school diploma following her son’s death in 2014.
She talked about how her son’s death motivated her to step up to change how African Americans are treated by law enforcement.
