Young Dolphâs family is approaching a difficult time in their householdâthe first anniversary of his passing. On Thursday, his longtime partner Mia Jaye opened up about her challenges since losing Dolph, including parenting their two children.
âThis almost year has been the most challenging year Iâve ever had to face in my life,â Mia said in a video posted to Instagram. âAnd itâs like the closer I get to this year-markâŠitâs like trying to be positive about something so messed up, it comes to a breaking point, to where itâs really just unfair.â
Dolph was shot and killed while visiting Makedaâs Homemade Cookies in Memphis on November 17, 2021. On a Wednesday afternoon, multiple shooters sent bullets raining through the bake shop, striking Dolph at least 22 times throughout his upper body and arms. He was 36.
Hours after Miaâs tearful video, Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy confirmed the indictment of a third man in the killing of Dolph. According to Action 5 News, Hernandez Govan is facing first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and criminal attempt first-degree murder.
A grand jury indicted the 43-year-old on November 10, and per Action 5 News, Govan is the only suspect facing a conspiracy charge. Hernandez was reportedly in jail for an unrelated June 2021 aggravated assault when Dolph died. But, a conspiracy charge could mean prosecutors have evidence that Hernandez planned Dolphâs murder.
Cornelius Smith, early 30s, and Justin Johnson, early 20s, also face murder and attempted murder charges.
In her video, Mia explained that she sees and feels the lack of Dolphâs fatherly presence affects their children. At the same time, she understands that theyâre also dealing with the pain of losing Dolph.
âAnd I just get mad, I get so freaking mad, like I get so freaking mad dawg,â Mia tearfully shared. âWhy did we have to go through this? Why is this something that my family has to endure, why is this something that my kids have to endure? Because somebody felt that itâd better to just take somebodyâs life. And then you get down to the reasoning behind it, itâs never good enough.â
Mia also touched on her ongoing campaign, âBlack Men Deserve To Grow Old,â which she launched after losing her brother to violence. She expressed that the deeper she gets into it, the more she wonders if anything will change.
âItâs like me advocating for âBlack Men Deserve To Grow Old,â me saying this, itâs like the more I say it, I be asking myself, is this shit gonâ ever change? Like is this just really the way of the world and I be feeling so f**ked up,â Mia said.
In January, Mia shared that she couldnât have imagined sheâd be using her campaign to heal within her household.
âI had no idea that me putting this campaign together to help my brotherâs family and the other families that have been affected by such violent crime. I didnât know I was also preparing for my own journey,â Mia said in an interview. âI have received an outpour of support from fans to different celebrities, I mean just everyone.â
