Meryl Streep Dismisses Racial Diversity Questions With ‘We’re All Africans, Really…’

Our sister in Prada, Meryl Streep, has the girls mad this week! She served as jury president on a seven-member panel for the Berlin International Film Festival this Thursday, where they discussed diversity in the film industry. Interestingly enough, the entire panel, including Mrs. Streep, was comprised of white people and you best believe all the reporters’ questions centered around the irony of the situation.

I mean, how can you have a panel of all white people discussing diversity? (LOL) Anyway, Meryl paid their questions and remarks with “we’re all Africans, really.”
While the reporters had a valid point, that still didn’t detract from what Meryl’s purpose was for joining the panel.

According to The Associated Press, the actress says that she’s committed to equality and inclusion “of all genders, races, ethnicities, religions.” Meryl made it clear to reporters that she has “absolutely no idea how to run a jury” and that she was “going to learn by doing.” This only made her response to the next reporter’s question…questionable.

The Associated Press:
“Asked by an Egyptian reporter whether she understood films from the Arab world and North Africa, Streep said while she didn’t know much about the region, “I’ve played a lot of different people from a lot of different cultures.

There is a core of humanity that travels right through every culture, and after all, we’re all from Africa originally,” she said. “You know, we’re all,” she added, pausing.

“Berliners, we’re all Africans, really.”
Hmm, see that clarification right there? I wonder what she REALLY wanted to say!
