Last year Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made the decision to take a step back from the Royal Family, and on Friday it was announced that the couple has made the decision not to return as working members of the Royal Family.
Buckingham Palace released an official statement and said, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed to Her Majesty The Queen that they will not be returning as working members of The Royal Family. Following conversations with The Duke, The Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of The Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service.”
The statement continued to state, “The honorary military appointments and Royal patronages held by The Duke and Duchess will therefore be returned to Her Majesty, before being redistributed among working members of The Royal Family.”
An additional note was made stating that last year when the Duke and Dutchess took a step back, a 12-month review was agreed. Ultimately, they had a discussion with the other members of the Royal Family, and announced they would not be returning.
As previously reported, last year when the couple announced that they were taking a step back, they also announced that they were working “to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”
Friday’s statement ended with, “While all are saddened by their decision, The Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family.”
Since stepping back the couple has secured different deals, including a Spotify deal. There were resports of the couple speaking about their exit from the Royal Family in their own book and more.
