Megan Thee Stallion Says Symbolism In ‘Sweetest Pie’ Represents Women Rising From The Ashes

Fans are eating up Megan Thee Stallion and Dua Lipa’s collaboration ‘Sweetest Pie.’ The video carried Garden of Eden meets seduction, freedom, empowerment and detailed, sometimes terrifying, visuals. From middle fingers popping out Megan’s eyes to a spider crawling under Dua’s face skin, the ladies definitely brought the spooky vibes along with beautiful imagery of the female body. On the day of its release, Megan gave some insight on the inspiration behind the three-and-a-half minute video.

Inspiration Behind ‘Sweetest Pie’

I see that the #SweetestPie video scared some people or creeped them out a lil bit… lol MISSION ACCOMPLISHED,” Megan wrote on Twitter. “How many times do I have to say I love horror films/ aesthetics.”

In a response to Megan’s tweet, a Twitter user listed as @TheeRandyReport challenged her explanation.

“Megan can you just be honest. The video was meant to spread a lot of symbolism. From Dua literally being a spider demon, yall being witches, and it being the damn near apocalypse,” @TheeRandyReport wrote. “You can say this was like Hansel & Gretel but that’s not a scary movie. This was devil worship.”

Megan offered the user some additional clarity by speaking on the intended symbolism.

The symbolism of the video was how when men come for me I eat they a*s up every time and even when y’all go on y’all’s witch hunts attacking women for whatever reasons y’all make up we still rise from the ashes stronger than ever,” Megan responded.

She also said that ‘Sweetest Pie’ is about “girls having fun and teasing the boys a little bit” in an interview.

Stats On Stats For ‘Sweetest Pie’

Less than 48 hours after the March 11 release of the track’s music video, the stats have stacked up. Per Chart Data, ‘Sweetest Pie’ snatched the title, “#1 trending music video on YouTube worldwide,” hours after its release. As of Saturday night, it was still trending at number #2. The track also touched the number one slot on US iTunes. Not only that, but Megan and Dua Lipa’s song earned the “biggest debut for a song by a lead female artist on the global Spotify chart” in 2022, per Chart Data.

How The Collab Happened

Megan told Zane Lowe on Apple Music how her collaboration with Dua Lipa came to be.

“I would see like everybody making mashups of me and Dua songs and I’m like ‘no this sounds too good, like we have to make a song’,” Megan said in an interview preview clip posted to her Instagram page. “I was like ‘Dua like I really want us to do a song, but I gotta find that right beat like it has to be perfect.’ So I didn’t just send her no any track like I waited til I had the perfect one. And I feel like we both came to a mutual agreement that it was greatness and now we got ‘Sweetest Pie.'”

Megan’s Next Album

Megan also revealed she plans to let the Hotties into her personal business in her next project.

“In my next album, my hotties definitely can expect a story, a lot of my side of things, or a lot of how I felt about things that was happening to me or have happened to me. And I feel like I never really open up in music too much, ’cause I don’t like people in my business, but this is the first album I’m like definitely letting the hotties in my business.”
