Meek Mill shared his interaction with a group of young boys in Atlanta, GA selling water earlier today. He took to his Instagram to share his interaction with the boys who approached his car. One of the boys reached into his car, and Meek asked, “Support–what are we supporting, though? What are we supporting, though?”
One of the boys said, “ The water hustle.” Another one replied, “I’m just a young black man. On my mama soul.” Meek gives the group of boys $20 to split between themselves. It’s unclear how many were present, but it appeared to be about eight boys surrounding the car holding water bottles. When the boys asked for more money, Meek told them he just gave them $20, and someone in the car with Meek said they needed to split that.
Some people on social media felt that Meek Mill should have given more money to the young boys, and some defended Meek. The Roommates were discussing the topic in our comments on Instagram. One said, “Just because he is rich doesn’t mean he gotta give everyone money. WTF is wrong with yall?” Another responded saying, “He should’ve never reposted this video.”
So many people commented on the situation that Meek Mill started trending on Twitter. Meek decided to respond to the critics by tweeting, “They appreciated it. They just kids hustling.”
Tamika “Tiny” Harris from R&B group Xscape stepped into The Shade Room and commented under Meek’s response saying, “These water boys in ATL Hell!” As a resident of Atlanta, it appears that Tiny has had many interactions with this group of boys in the area.
Roommates, should celebrities share acts of giving on social media?
