Christmas came early for Philly residents, thanks to Meek Mill and several partners! Families waited in frigid temperatures and long lines that wrapped around the block on Sunday afternoon to receive goodies for the city’s youth. In total, the artist blessed the community with $500,000 worth of presents.
“I feel like if you can help, help,” Meek told local media after arriving to the event. “We’ve been doing it for a while now in our community.”
And help he did! The Philly native gave ‘deluxe Santa Claus’ vibes with the types of gifts given. According to NBC Philadelphia, the kiddos can look forward to enjoying MacBooks, bikes and helmets, gift cards, dolls, Amazon Fire HD tablets and even winter coats.
The event lasted from noon until 5 p.m. local time. Meek, whose real name is Robert Rihmeek Williams, pulled up to the giveaway to show his love in person.
While he’s the face of the extravagant giveaway, Meek isn’t the only contributor. Along with his DreamChasers organization, the rapper also tapped on Roc Nation, Sixers co-owner Michael Rubin and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft to bring the event to life.
One resident interviewed by NBC Philadelphia praised Meek’s efforts for the community.
“I appreciate it because it’s real inspirational to the youth because there’s a lot going on right now and it’s a lot of killing going on right now,” Saeed Huntley who hails from South Philly said. “But it’s like he’s really helping. It’s real inspirational and I appreciate it.”
Aside from this main giveaway, Meek also reportedly donated an additional $30,000 to the Philly chapter of a group called Twelve Days of Christmas. Per NBC Philadelphia, the volunteer organization assists families who are in need of supplies throughout the holidays.
