Everyone has a favorite line from the 2004 film, ‘Mean Girls,’ and now it will be coming to the stage in the form of a musical.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tina Fey, who also write the original film, is writing the musical version.
The musical is scheduled to premiere on October 3rd, at the National Theatre in Washington D.C.
Tina Fey’s husband, Jeff Richmond will compose the music along with Nell Benjamin, who is known for working on “Legally Blonde.”
The original film focused on a teenage girl who was home-schooled while her family lived in Africa. She returns back to America and attends a public high school. There she befriend’s a group of girls called, “The Plastics,” and is taken on an unforgettable roller coaster ride.
No casting for the musical has been announced, but a development workshop will be held in the spring.
Although there are no current plans for the musical to appear on Broadway. If it turns out to be successful in D.C., it can more than likely make its way to New York City.
