Meagan Good is opening up about her life after her post-divorce and sharing why she ignored advice to wait to date Jonathan Majors until after his assault trial.
On Tuesday, July 9, Good appeared as a guest on ‘TODAY‘ to talk about her role in Tyler Perry’s latest film, ‘Divorce In The Black.’ In the film, Good plays a woman who “is devastated when her husband abandons their marriage,” per IMDb.
As The Shade Room previously reported, Good’s ex-husband, DeVon Franklin, filed for divorce in December 2021 after they had been married for nine years. While speaking with the ‘TODAY’ hosts, Good explained how her latest film aided her healing.
“I was happy to kind of just like delve into this role because of her journey,” Good explained. “And her journey was one of — once she accepted what was happening, and she realized there was nothing she could do about it, then she had to get excited about the second act of her life. And I understand that feeling very, very intimately, so I wanted to be able to display that because I want women and men to feel like, ‘Yeah, I can do this’ — it seems like something ended, but something beautiful is beginning.”
Good went on to share that she and Franklin have remained friends, and she feels she is a “better person” from that experience.
As the conversation continued, the hosts brought up Good’s romance with Majors and attempted to inquire about how it began. In turn, Good explained that she wouldn’t dish on how it started. However, she believes their relationship is filled with love, respect, care, and thoughtfulness.
One of the hosts then asked Good if her friends advised her to wait on pursuing a relationship with Majors due to his recent domestic abuse trial, which began in 2023 and concluded earlier this year.
“Uh, yeah, every friend,” Good replied before laughing. “But at the end of the day, one thing I know is I can always look myself in the mirror when I trust my spirit… and when I move to the beat of my own drum. I can always look and say, ‘Okay, I’m proud of that,’ no matter whatever happens, I have peace in my heart, and I have harmony in my heart…”
Good explained that she takes everyone’s opinions into account. But, “at the end of the day,” she’s the one who has to live her life and “be responsible” for the “choices” that she makes.
“And I also want to live the life that I want to live,” Good concluded.
Good’s comments on ‘TODAY’ arrive the day after she and Majors attended the premiere of ‘Divorce In The Black’ at the Regal Times Square Theater in New York City. Good posed alongside her co-stars on the carpet while also taking a few flicks with her boo.
The pair even shared a kiss on the carpet.
On Tuesday, July 9, footage surfaced of Majors hitting his 1,2 while at the event. A clip, recorded by Instagram user @quesianna shows the actor hitting his two-step to Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us.’
Social media users have since reacted to Majors’ moves in The Shade Room’s comment section.
