Roommates, McDonald’s has officially entered the fast food chicken sandwich wars—-and is set to drop not one, but THREE new chicken sandwiches this February! Following the massive success of the Popeyes chicken sandwich and the always popular Chik-fil-A chicken sandwich, McDonald’s is now coming for the throne.
2021 has just arrived, but McDonald’s is already giving customers a collection of new menu items to choose from…specifically chicken sandwiches. As the company officially enters into the chicken sandwich arena that Popeyes and Chik-fil-A have locked down, McDonald’s will be introducing three new chicken sandwiches.
The Spicy Chicken Sandwich, The Crispy Chicken Sandwich and The Deluxe Chicken Sandwich will all be dropping on February 24th. The Spicy Chicken will feature a spicy pepper sauce, the Crispy Chicken will have pickles on a toasted, buttered roll and the Deluxe Chicken is topped with shredded lettuce, Roma tomatoes and mayonnaise.
After Popeyes’ debuted its New Orleans-style fried chicken sandwich in August 2019 that caused mass hysteria throughout the country, the company started a viral Twitter feud with Chick-fil-A and other restaurants dubbed the Chicken Sandwich War of 2019.
This past November, McDonald’s USA President Joe Erlinger confirmed that U.S. restaurants would officially introduce the Crispy Chicken Sandwich in 2021. The premium chicken sandwich was tested in Houston and Knoxville, Tennessee until January 2020.
“We believe it’s going to jump-start our chicken journey, build our chicken credentials and get people to start looking at us differently,”: Erlinger said in November. “We’re excited about the moves we’re making to meet – and exceed – customer expectations for great-tasting chicken. That is how we will start to build our chicken credibility,” he continued.
