Mathew Knowles shared a rare photo of his daughters Beyoncé and Solange on Instagram Wednesday. Additionally, the 71-year-old father and music executive opened up about what it’s like raising famous children.
The 71-year-old explained that “we need to encourage our children.” He added, “Those early passions many children possess should be nurtured and supported.”
“We need to encourage our children,” he started his message in the photo’s caption. “I believe our young people are often more intuitive than adults in many areas. Those early passions many children possess should be nurtured and supported.”
Knowles explained that his mother “supported” his “every ambition.” Despite him not coming from a wealthy family.
He also recalled his mother buying him a “set of encyclopedia books.” Then credited the gift for opening up his curiosity, ultimately making him the successful businessman he is today.
Furthermore, Knowles reflected on his time on the basketball court and shared that his “love for basketball started at a young age.” Knowles explained that because it was “nurtured,” it has remained with him throughout his “entire life.”
“A few of my dearest friends today are some of the most notable NBA legends in history. My love for basketball started at a young age, and because it was nurtured, it has remained with me throughout my entire life,” he wrote.
Knowles also spoke about how he and ex-wife Tina Knowles-Lawson guided Beyonce and Solangé in their careers in the entertainment industry after they showed “interest in music at a very young age.”
“When Beyoncé and Solange showed an interest in music at a very young age, Tina [Knowles-Carter] and I (who were already corporate professionals and entrepreneurs) didn’t attempt to downplay their passions,” he shared. “Rather, we encouraged them, we guided them, we supported them. As long as they took it seriously and strived to be the best they could, we were happy with whatever career path they chose.”
Knowles concluded the lengthy caption by celebrating his daughters’ careers. He said, “the world needs more people who are connected to their inner ambitions and passions, and are surrounded by those who nurture them.”
“It’ll make the world a better place for us all,” he stated.
Knowles’ daughters have become dominant figures in the entertainment industry and are tastemakers in today’s music and culture.
To that point, Beyoncé recently broke the record for most Grammy Award wins during this year’s ceremony.
Meanwhile, Solange has recently lent her talents to voice acting and composition. She most famously provided the voice of Chanel Parker in The Proud Family.
