Roommates, as the incredibly popular Verzuz battles continue to entertain us while in the middle of a global pandemic, many fans have suggested certain artists they would love to see participate and Mary J. Blige is at the top of the list…but it won’t ever happen. Mary J. Blige was recently asked if she would be interested in going head-to-head in a Verzuz battle—and the answer is sure to disappoint her highly devoted fanbase.
While promoting her role on the Starz “Power” spinoff series “Power: Book Of Ghost,” Mary J. Blige was asked if she saw the most recent record-breaking Verzuz battle between Brandy and Monica. She responded that she did watch and she enjoyed it just as much as the fans did because the ladies not only played their hits, but also respected each other despite their controversial past.
When the question turned to her own possible participation in a Verzuz battle, Mary shut the suggestion down pretty quickly, saying “No, I don’t wanna do a Verzuz. I don’t.” Welp, there you have it.
In the past, social media has suggested that Mary go up against fellow artists such as Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton and Faith Evans—but, as we know now, it’s not happening.
Meanwhile, Verzuz fans are gearing up for the next battle, which is a showdown between music legends Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight. The two ladies are set to go head-to-head on September 13th at the Filmore in Philadelphia.
