Marvin Gaye III has reportedly filed for divorce from his wife, Wendy Gaye. According to TMZ, the 57-year-old went to court on Wednesday, March 15 to file documents.
The decision comes two months after he and his wife were involved in a domestic violence dispute. The incident subsequently led to Gaye III’s arrest.
As The Shade Room previously reported, Marvin Gaye III was accused of assaulting his wife and cousin during an argument that took place inside his Calabasas home in January. The 57-year-old allegedly pointed a gun at both individuals.
Authorities “arrived and surrounded” the home, instructing him to exit the residence. However, the 57-year-old had reportedly already left the scene.
Gaye later turned himself in at a local sheriff’s office. He was booked on two charges which included misdemeanor domestic violence, and felony assault with a deadly weapon. However, the 57-year-old wasn’t behind bars for long. He reportedly posted $50,000 bail and was released shortly after his arrest.
According to TMZ, Wendy Gaye later filed a restraining order against her husband on January 17. Prior to Gaye III pointing the firearm at her and his cousin, Wendy alleged that he also grabbed her by the neck and lifted her off the ground. This prompted Gaye III’s cousin to intervene in the dispute and he retaliated by physically assaulting both women.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Gaye III filed for divorce from his wife last week. The 57-year-old reportedly listed the date of separation as January 12. The outlet notes that January 12 is also the same day Gaye III was arrested for the domestic violence dispute.
The 57-year-old has listed the cause for divorce as “irreconcilable differences.” Additionally, he is asking “to block the court’s ability to award Wendy spousal support.”
Gaye III and Wendy do not share any children, so the outlet reports that it’s unlikely for the court to award her with spousal support.
Furthermore, TMZ also noted that Gaye III did not “specify the date of marriage” on the legal documents.
As The Shade Room previously reported, gun violence seems to plague the Gaye family. Marvin Gaye III’s father, renowned R&B singer Marvin Gaye Jr., was shot to death by his own father on April 1, 1984. The fatal shooting occurred just one day before the singer’s 45th birthday on April 2.
