Marlon Wayans stopped by the Wendy Williams show this morning in support of his new film 50 Shades of Black! If you’re a fan of Marlon then you know that this interview was no where near a typical one. He “joked” about NYC gentrification which segued into a conversation about boycotting the Oscars and whether or not fellow comedian, Chris Rock, should still host the show. Marlon also weighed in on the very interesting week Stacy Dash has been having!
Upon being asked his thoughts on the Oscars controversy, Marlon responded, “First of all, it’s called ‘The Oscars’, you know. It’s named after a white guy. It’s not like it’s ‘The Jamals'”. The audience erupted in laughter as Wendy then asked his opinion on whether or not Chris Rock should continue with hosting the acclaimed awards show. In so many words, he said yes, but not without throwing a little shade! Marlon explained that his fellow comedian is very talented and professional, so there’s no doubt that Chris will be an awesome host! “If he does host, he should come out in white face,” Marlon said, “so [it looks like] he belongs there!” Chris is the perfect man for the job and will definitely use the platform he has to educate– and to roast a little bit!
So much has happened this week alone that Chris could talk about, like Jada Pinkett-Smith’s call to boycotting The Oscars. You’ve got to know Wendy asked him about that too and he quoted his brother Kenan, whom he refers to as “Black Yoda” as saying something very profound. “As a film maker,” Marlon said, “it makes me want to develop and produce more movies [every] year and start working with different kinds of film makers, because then it’s undeniable. Kenan told us ‘You don’t knock on the doors of Hollywood asking for stuff. You kick them down and demand.”
Well, the first demand we can all probably agree on is trading Stacey Dash for Gary Owen! This week, she went off about how black people need to decide if we want segregation over integration and that if we want the latter, then we need to get rid of the BET and Image Awards. You can read up on that mess of a woman here! As for this Wayans Brotha, in her defense, he says that she’s always been the one to say some crazy stuff! He even dubbed her the Donald Trump of Black People.
On that note, can we get the ball rolling on this Black Delegation?
