Amid the investigation of the The Ellen Show for allegations of fostering a hostile work environment, Mariah Carey spoke with Variety and reflected on her 2008 visit.
While there, MC stated she felt “extremely uncomfortable,” after being put in a position to ultimately admit she was pregnant.
During that episode, Ellen challenged the singer to confirm or deny the pregnancy rumors by drinking (or not) a glass of champagne.
At first, Mariah attempted to laugh it off and said, “This is peer pressure,” but Ellen insisted that she have the glass of champagne anyway. When Carey faked like she was taking a sip, the host shouted, “You’re pregnant!”
In her interview with Variety, she stated, “”I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say. And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath,” Carey said.
In 2010, Mariah revealed she was pregnant but later suffered a miscarriage.
“I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage,” Carey, who has appeared five more times on the show since the 2008 interview, told Vulture. “I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment.”

“The Ellen Show”gave three of its senior producers the boot, after an internal investigation into the show revealed their involvement in an uncomfortable work environment. Now, the show is reportedly increasing employee benefits in an attempt to make it’s upcoming season successful for everyone.
According to Variety, the show is implementing several new benefits for staff, including increased paid time off and a new medical leave policy! Employees will now receive five paid days off, birthdays off, and paid time off for doctors appointments and “family matters.” Senior producers Mary Connelly and Andy Lassner reportedly announced the new perks at a virtual staff meeting.
