Songstress Mariah Carey and her boyfriend Bryan Tanaka have reportedly split after seven years together.
According to a report published by Page Six on Wednesday, December 20, Carey and Tanaka have called it quits over an alleged disagreement.
“He wants to have a family. That’s not where she is at,” an unnamed source reportedly informed the outlet. “He wants to start having his own life.”
To note, Carey is 54 and shares two 12-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan, with her ex-husband Nick Cannon. Furthermore, Tanaka is 40 years old and does not have any kids.
The outlet notes that speculation of the couple’s split began earlier this week. Carey reportedly took an annual vacation to Aspen, Colorado, without Tanaka.
Additionally, Tanaka has not been spotted on Carey’s “Merry Christmas One And All” tour, which kicked off in November.
At this time, neither Tanaka nor Carey have publicly confirmed or denied reports of their split. Additionally, Tanaka’s official Instagram account features photos of him and Mariah, with one posted on their anniversary in March of this year.
However, the last time Carey shared a photo with Tanaka on her official Instagram account was in December 2022.
PEOPLE reports that representatives for the singer have declined to comment on the matter.
According to the outlet, Tanaka began working as a choreographer and backup dancer for Mariah Carey in 2006. The pair reportedly began dating in 2016 but split in 2017 before quickly reuniting.
“We’ve been friends for a long time… Something connected with us back in the day, and there was just a mutual admiration,” Tanaka explained in a 2016 interview with E! News. “She saw something in me that I actually didn’t recognize at first, from that it was over. It was set in history that we were gonna be connected some way, somehow.”
In December 2017, Carey even took to Instagram to share footage of her and Tanaka in Aspen, Colorado.
The pair would vacation together in Aspen in 2019 and 2021 while spending Christmas together in 2022.
The news of Carey and Tanaka’s reported split arrives amid the songstress wrapping her Christmas tour on Sunday, December 17. As The Shade Room previously reported, the event made headlines with Carey’s 12-year-old son, Moroccan, debuting his rap skills during a tour stop in Los Angeles.

Since then, Carey has taken to Instagram to reflect on her and her children’s recent visit to the White House. On Wednesday, Carey shared a carousel of event photos and a brief caption.
“Last week I had the pleasure of meeting President Biden & Vice President Harris at the White House to ring in the holiday season! While there, we got to see all the festive decor and spread some cheer!” the singer wrote.
