Mariah Carey Becomes First Artist In History To Have A Number One Song In Four Different Decades

Mariah Carey has a lot of thanks to give her Lambs for their endless efforts to help her make history! After topping the charts for the last few weeks with her Christmas classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” Mariah will be number one for another week—and that will officially make her the first artist in history to have a number one song in four different decades.

@Billboard reports the historic news that just further solidified Mariah Carey’s legendary status. For the third week in a row, Mimi’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” tops the Billboard Hot 100, making her the first artist to reach the top of the chart in the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and now 2020s, as this week’s chart numbers will end on January 4, 2020.

The song was originally released in 1994, and recently became Mariah’s 19th number one single after finally reaching the top of the Hot 100 25 years after its release. This allowed Mariah to snatch the crown as the solo artist with the most number one singles in history. She also holds the record for most singles (10) to have topped the chart for three weeks or more, although she is still two songs away from beating The Beatles, who have 20 number ones overall.

The song’s historic week was made possible by a 33% increase in streaming, as the song registered 72.2 million U.S. streams for the week ending December 26th. It also sold 17,000 digital copies and captured 30.9 million radio impressions across the same time period.

Following Mariah, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Elton John, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and Usher have all had number songs in three different decades.
