A Detroit father is facing serious charges after he allegedly robbed a bank but it’s the reason why he did it that makes it extremely heartbreaking.
Bryan Randolph is being held at $500,000 bond after trying to stick up Vibe Credit Union in South Lyon, Detroit.
According to 7 Action News, on August 12th, security video shows Randolph giving the bank teller a note and hinting that he had a gun. No one was hurt or anything, but he was arrested anyway.
His lawyer, Karri Mitchell, says he’s having a hard time accepting that what he did was wrong. “He just asked me, when am I gonna get out of here. I said you may not get out of here,” he said.
Sounding like a modern script from the hit movie, “John Q”, Randolph and his family argue that he only did it in order to pay for his daughter’s chemotherapy treatments.
He and his girlfriend had recently found out that the insurance company cut her daughter’s insurance, because she was supposed to renew he policy after the baby turned 1. Apparently, she wasn’t aware of such a rule, but she is working on getting her coverage back.
The toddler suffers from a form of eye cancer called retinoblastoma and had been going to chemo once a month, but since the family does not have any money, Bryan felt that he had to sacrifice and provide for his family.
