A Florida man is currently behind bars following accusations by prosecutors that he beat his 7-year-old stepson to death for sneaking out of bed for a cookie, and then forced his brothers to sleep in the same bed with him.
According to Kron 4, Brice Russell’s mom was at work when this tragic event happened.
Jack Montgomery, 31, told investigators that he disciplined Brice after he tried to sneak and get a cookie.
“While she was out working he chose to not only physically discipline this child himself, repeatedly punching and throwing him on the ground, but threatening bodily harm upon the two brothers if they did not partake and equally discipline him,” Prosecutor Matthew Smith said to a Hillsborough judge.
His brothers told investigators they saw Jack punch Brice with a closed fist several times in the head and stomach.
Smith told the judge Montgomery “picked him up and flung him as described by the other brothers, helicopter across the hotel room into what’s kind of a cabinet, where he hit head first, and ultimately caused his brain to bleed.”
His brothers said that Jack tried splashing water on his face but he didn’t wake up.
“As if that was not aggravated enough, Mr. Montgomery took the child, put him in bed and had his siblings sleep with him while Brice was dead that entire night,” Smith said.
He has been charged with first-degree felony murder and aggravated child abuse. He’s looking at the death penalty most likely. He’s being held at the county jail on $870,000 bond.
