It looks like Malik Beasley will have to serve some time behind bars later this year after he pled guilty to an assault charge, which stemmed from an incident where he pulled an assault rifle on a family that was outside of his home.
According to TMZ, Malik appeared in virtual court on Tuesday and the judge sentenced him to 120 days at a jail facility known as “The Workhouse” at Hennepin County Adult Corrections Facility. However, he will not have to serve his time during the NBA season and is scheduled to turn himself in on May 26th.
The judge added that Malik could be placed on electronic home monitoring if COVID-19 precautions cause things to move in that direction, and he must also complete an anger management program and was hit with a lifetime ban on owning firearms. He must also not consume any drugs or alcohol and will have random drug tests.
Last September, Malik pulled a gun out on a family that was inside of a car that was near the end of his driveway. Prosecutors say Beasley’s Plymouth home was accidentally placed on a on a “Parade of Homes” list last fall, which is basically a guide for tourist as they ride around and look at the extravagant homes in the area.
The list caused a significant amount of traffic outside of his home which caused frustration, and on September 26th he walked towards the car that was at the end of his driveway with his gun and told the family to move. He was arrested and charged with felony threats of violence and felony drug possession because he had marijuana on him at the time.
Back in December when he pled guilty prosecutors agreed to drop the drug charge and he stated during the hearing, “I was not in my right mind. I’m ready to move on.”
Following Tuesday’s sentencing, his attorney said:
