Many fans were excited earlier this year when Academy Award winning actress, Lupita Nyong’o scored a role in the new Star Wars movie “The Force Awakens.” But apparently the force isn’t with Lupita because rumor on the street is that her appearance in the film will be very brief.
According to multiple reports, many of Lupita’s scenes as “Maz Kanata” were cut because the director wasn’t satisfied with her acting! Say what?
Apparently after watching a couple of rough cuts from the film the director, JJ Abrams, ordered much of Lupita’s dialogue to be re-recorded, but in the end he just wasn’t impressed by her performance and decided to just take out most of her scenes from the movie entirely.
A Star Wars insider spoke exclusively to the Sun and said, “The CGI seemed to be what Lupita struggled with, perhaps because it meant she felt less of a connection to the character.”
“It does happen in Hollywood, but not usually with Academy Award winners. Her part in the final film will now be a lot smaller than was initially expected. It’s ultimately quite embarrassing for Lupita but she’s still thrilled to even be in such an iconic movie.”
