Looks Like A Soul Food Sequel Is In The Works!

A Soul Food sequel is reportedly in the works! The original director, George Tillman Jr. who has since directed for Power, Notorious and even Men of Honor, will be writing the new script.

Word on the street is that it will include original cast members as well like Vanessa Williams, Mekhi Phifer and Nia Long just to name a few. In addition to Tillman working on the new script, he’s producing the film alongside Tracey and Babyface Edmonds. Yas! The original film came out in 1997, so this sequel is long overdue.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The sequel will chronicle the new, millennial generation of the Joseph family. In the age of cell phones and social media, the once-close clan finds themselves disconnected and without the guidance of the elders who have always held things together, they struggle to rediscover the importance of tradition and family.”

What I have always loved about Soul Food is that they did not spare us the drama either! Remember that scene with Cousin Faith and Uncle Miles?! I will never sing ‘Don’t Leave Me’ the same way again. I hope Jesus fixed that!
Now that it’s becoming more normal to have black faces on tv screens, this is a great opportunity for Tillman to explore how much the world has changed since 1997.

Raising black children today is definitely not as easy on the nerves as it may have been 20 years ago given lackadaisical safety standards and social media. Plus, who knows?! Maybe Kenny or Maxine are into health foods now and don’t want the family frying chicken every Sunday. I guess we’ll have to wait and see!
Are y’all here for this sequel, roommates? If The Best Man Holiday did it, then so can Soul Food! Leave us some comments and tell us what you’d like to see in the sequel!
