Lizzo Named TIME Magazine’s Entertainer Of The Year

#Roommates, all of 2019 Lizzo has been killing it with everything she touches. Aside from chart-topping songs, multiple award wins and the most Grammy nominations of any artist this year—she can now add being crowned with a major honor from TIME magazine.

While everyone is still discussing her risqué outfit at a recent Lakers game, Lizzo is busy racking up honors from one of the most respected magazines in the country. TIME magazine just released its annual year-end issue commemorating all the standout moments of 2019—and Lizzo was just named its “Entertainer of the Year.”

To her critics, it may appear that Lizzo is an overnight success, but if you dive into her story you know that she has been grinding for years and is finally enjoying the career success that she has fought hard for.

In the magazine interview to accompany her cover, Lizzo was asked about her incredible 2019 by TIME:

“I’ve been doing positive music for a long-ass time. Then the culture changed. There were a lot of things that weren’t popular but existed, like body positivity, which at first was a form of protest for fat bodies and Black women and has now become a trendy, commercialized thing. Now I’ve seen it reach the mainstream. Suddenly I’m mainstream!”

She also addressed the criticism that some have about her body positivity, saying:

“I was experiencing a little bit of unhappiness. I was not happy with the way I felt to my body. I didn’t feel sexy, and I didn’t know when it was going to end. There were times when I would go onstage and be like, ‘Y’all, I’m not going to lie. I’m not feeling myself.’ Sometimes I’d break down and cry. Sometimes the audience would just cheer to make me feel better. I was getting sick a lot. I was like, What the f-ck is going on? I need to fall back in love with my body.”

We want to congratulate Lizzo on her impressive honor!
