It’s Met Gala Monday (May 1), and celebrities have begun stepping out for “fashion’s biggest night out” on what’s considered red carpet royalty! This year the fundraising benefit for New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art chose ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’ as the theme. The designer and former Chanel, Balmain Fendi creative, passed away in 2019 at age 85.
The exhibition itself will feature over 150 pieces reflecting Karl’s work across luxury brands like Chloé, Fendi, Balmain, Chanel, and his brand.
To celebrate the @metmuseum's news, KARL LAGERFELD introduces 77 exclusive editions of Karl’s iconic white shirt design. Each has been individually printed with his original sketches, and all sales proceeds will be donated to The Met. #MetKarlLagerfeld pic.twitter.com/jA6oZDWs7d

As Vogue describes, the Met will welcome “stars, young creatives, and industry paragons.” Anna Wintour will surely be in the building along with hosts like Penélope Cruz, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer, and Dua Lipa.
The Shade Room’s Saran T. contributed to this report.
Celebrities model their themed looks, explore the exhibition, and sit down for a dinner and performance. The Met’s internal environment of the event is kept under wraps by their no phone, no social media policy. One thing we do know is that designers use this night to make bold statements.

Met Gala 2023: In The Clouds With THESE Vanilla, Silver & Cream Looks
ICE SPICE
From endorsement deals to signing a partnership and securing a feature from Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice is already winning this year.
But sis solidified her celebrity when she graced her first red carpet wearing a floor-length white Balmain gown. Spice kept the goodies covered in the turtleneck, long-sleeved dress but had sheer linework and the textured material highlighting the curves!
Accessories? Red, straightened inches, and a shimmery purse made to look like a camera.
DOJA CAT
One thing about Doja Cat, her red carpet and overall fashion slays are meant to stick. From wearing 30,000 Swarvoski crystals to applying eyelashes where facial hair tends to grow, the rapper/singer keeps the innanet chatting!
And Met Gala 2023 will surely be no different as Doja stepped out wearing a cat make-up look–think Hunger Games meets elegance–and an Oscar De La Renta gown. The look was inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette.
Her bodycon, silver and white shimmery dress featured an open back, featured bottom, and hood with small cat ears. Cat seemingly took a page from Lil Uzi Vert’s book and accessorized it with a large diamond resting on her forehead.
Lil Nas X
Oooh, la la! Lil Nas X left it all on the carpet and a whole lot at home! The rapper pulled up to the Met wearing nothing but silver body paint, gems, pearls, and a thong–both cheeks on full gleaming display. He accessorized with matching claws and a face mask.
Halle Bailey
Our Little Mermaid graced the carpet in a sheer and lace Gucci gown complimented with a dramatic sheer robe with exaggerated trims. The bodycon look hugged her curves and tied around her neck. Her red locs were styled in a curly updo.
Brittney & Cherelle Griner
More than a year after Brittney Griner got arrested in Russia on drug smuggling charges, the basketball star graced one of the most significant red carpet events wearing a cream suit and black dress shoes. At the same time, her wife Cherelle rocked a light cream-colored tube gown. A one-year $165,000 contract and date night at the Met Gala? That’s one way to spend the first six months of 2023!
Jared Leto
Now, here’s an actor who took the theme to heart! Jared Leto graced the Met Gala carpet fully dressed as Karl’s cat Choupette–a giant costume featuring white fur and blue eyes.
Kim Kardashian & North West
The spotlight has followed Kim Kardashian for years, and now the mother of four is bringing her eldest along for the camera flashes! North West joined her fashionista mama for fashion’s biggest night.
While Kim opted for a custom Schiaparelli gown made of a cream bodysuit and layers of pearls, nine-year-old Northie wore a light pink Chanel jacket and accessories, washed jeans, and black boots.
Keke Palmer
Keke Palmer took a night off from mom-ing to give the girlies a Sergio Hudson serve. She complimented the curve-hugging, pastel-colored gown with square-hoop earrings, a light blue cover-up, and voluminous hair.
Lala
She might’ve found her lane as an actress, but Lala wasn’t playing any roles when she stepped out in a one-shoulder, white Sergio Hudson gown! She kept some mystery with white-framed cat eye sunglasses and completed the look with a high ponytail, gold chains draping across her dress, rings, and a large gold arm cuff.
Erykah Badu
One thing about Erykah Badu‘s look, we probably could’ve guessed it was here without seeing her face–which she kept primarily covered with a white, fringed headpiece. Her gown matched the vibe, and the singer accessorized with tribal necklaces and gems in various sizes.
Bad Bunny
Bad Bunny pulled up to the Met Gala carpet, but he didn’t appear to have rumored bae Kendall Jenner by his side–though she was also at the event in a black-and-white ensemble.
Along with a slicked combover, the Puerto Rican rapper wore an all-white Jacquemus suit with a jacket featuring 3D rose trimmings that trailed far behind him!
Alton Mason
This model, Alton Mason, put every letter in the label when he touched the carpet, giving a modern-day bride-like ensemble, including a white veil, lace bodysuit, and flared footwear.

Met Gala 2023: Black, Black On Black (& A Lil' White) Fits
Diddy & Yung Miami
Their romantic situation might be “over,” as Yung Miami claims, but Diddy and the City Girls rapper chose each other to serve a coupled slay on this year’s carpet!
Caresha rocked a sheer dress accessorized with layers of pearls and a train of ruffles. The gown also featured a feather piece wrapped around her shoulders.
Meanwhile, Brother Love rocked an all-black Sean John suit with a thick, rose-trimmed cape. Can’t forget the dark sunglasses!
Later, Lala had the uncoupled pair, primarily Diddy, in the hot seat during a brief carpet interview.
Jeremy Pope
This actor-singer took the gala’s theme to heart and appeared on the carpet with a portrait of the late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. Jeremy Pope wore the full-face tribute on an extra-large and extra-long cape made of feathers and paired with black slacks. What’s 7+1? Yup, that’s what Pope did!
Teyana Taylor
She ain’t predictable, but she does slay! Teyana Taylor can switch up any look, and for the Met Gala 2023, the singer-actor wore a non-traditional interpretation of a suit.
Her black-and-white fit featured a gloved jacket that looked like a bodysuit covered by a low-rise, floor-length skirt with a small train. Teyana styled her hair in a pixie cut and wore dark sunglasses to complete the look.
Trevor Noah
Issa switch up! Trevor Noah let somebody get their hands in his lil’ afro and pulled up to the carpet donning fresh cornrows along with a black suit featuring a partially shimmery, velvet-like jacket.
Kendall Jenner
We mentioned Kendall Jenner was on the carpet. But as for what the Jenner family model was wearing? A black Marc Jacobs cheeky body suit with a white collar. Her sleeves opened at the elbow and flowed towards the ground and across the carpet next to her tall black boots. Jenner’s hair was pulled into a ponytail while her cheeks peaked from the bodysuit’s bikini style.
Janelle Monáe
Ms. Monáe got interactive with her red carpet fit. The singer wore an oversized black-and-white coat over a large, round skirt. She accessorized the look with a white, animal-shaped purse and two-toned headpiece.
Moments later, Janelle removed the coat to reveal a black panty and bra set under the see-through skirt. She added a pop of color to the slay with red lipstick!
Jennifer Lopez
One thing about it, J. Lo wasn’t on the block with THIS red carpet look! She wore a black and seemingly light pink Ralph Lauren gown topped with black elbow-length gloves and a gravity-defying headpiece.
Usher
Fresh off his popular Las Vegas residency, Usher popped out at the New York fundraiser wearing a black Bianca Saunders suit. He completed the look with white loafers and dark sunglasses.
Kerry Washington
Not one to limit her energy, Kerry Washington showed her excitement for tonight’s function with a two-piece Michael Kors fit. She wore a glittered, lace tube top with a matching high-waisted, mermaid-style skirt. She wore a diamond choker to complete the slay!
Lizzo
Pearls were a common accessory throughout the night, and Lizzo didn’t miss out on the trend! The singer wore a sleeveless black gown adorned with pearls draping from her neckline and a high leg split. She styled her hair in a curly up-do.
Idris & Sabrina Elba
Did someone say married couple goals? Yup, we did! Idris and Sabrina Elba stepped onto the Met Gala red carpet wearing Gucci fits. The actor wore a long white suit jacket with black slacks, while his wife wore a black tube top dress with a flared skirt.
More Black Fits For The Win!

Met Gala 2023: A Pop Of Color Never Hurt A Slay
Quinta Brunson
Janine Teagues was nowhere to be found when the creator of Abbott Elementary graced the Met Gala carpet! Quinta Brunson opted for a light pink Prabal Gurung gown.
Tied at the neck, the dress featured silver gems, a black organza overlay, and matching black gloves. Like her career, her hair screamed Black Girl Magic with laid edges and a gravity-defying braided up-do.
Anok Yai
Black Barbie? That’s the most accurate description of Anok Yai while she strutted down the Met Gala carpet. She wore a sleeveless, deep V-neck gold and silver cocktail dress. The bottom half of the gown morphed into a black organza train. She accessorized with black organza gloves and oversized brown shades.
Gabrielle Union & Dwyane Wade
The parents are OUT tonight! And Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade didn’t miss their chance to walk the carpet in complimentary Prada fits. Gabrielle opted for an all-red look–trench coat included while Wade went for a similar look in all-black.
Yara Shahidi
Forget Grownish, Yara Shahidi turned heads on Monday night when she pulled up wearing custom Jean Paul Gaultier. Though the dress featured a train in the front and back, its bodice was a curve-hugging mini with a corset top. Her colors of choice? Deep tan and beige. She limited standout accessories to a diamond necklace and tall, dark brown pumps.
Mary J. Blige
Ms. Mary ditched the neutrals and opted for a custom blue Burberry ensemble for this year’s festivities. The long-sleeved, high-split outfit was paired with one of Mary J. Blige‘s signatures–matching thigh-high boots!
Kylie Jenner
Kendall wasn’t the only Jenner on the carpet. Kylie Jenner wore a red one-sleeve gown by Jean Paul Gaultier and Haider Ackermann. The dress featured a high-leg slit and was complimented by an oversized, reversible trench coat in red and light blue colors.
Burna Boy
This may have been Burna Boy‘s first year at the Met Gala, but the African star didn’t half-step! He graced the red carpet in custom blue Burberry, similar in shade to Mary J. Blige. His look included a dramatic ‘suit jacket’ with a diagonal opening and a sheer, shimmery top underneath with matching slacks.
Salma Hayek
The Mexican-American actress brought flames to the event in a hot red gown that starts as a leather bustier top and flows into an organza and lace skirt. The Gucci gown featured pearls for sleeves. Salma Hayek had her dark hair pulled back with a red lip to highlight the look.
Jack Harlow
From an album drop on Friday to the Met Gala on Monday–Jack Harlow is having A TIME this week! He wore a Tommy Hilfiger suit made of a navy blue, quilted material with a medium diamond brooch.

Met Gala 2023: Muva Rihanna & A$AP Rocky Shut DOWN The Carpet
Fans were anticipating Rihanna‘s arrival all night. When she finally showed, after 10 p.m. local time, the pregnant star shut DOWN the carpet with her man, A$AP Rocky, in tow. As they exited a nearby hotel, RiRi wore a Fendi coat by Karl Lagerfeld for FW97 to cover her fit for the carpet reveal.
Meanwhile, Rocky wore a Gucci fit that consisted of a red plaid kilt with washed jeans and a suit jacket with a black tie and white collared shirt. His signature braids were pulled into a ponytail.
Before stepping in front of the carpet cameras, Rihanna ditched the Fendi coat and revealed her white Valentino gown. It featured a rounded skirt with a long train and a puffed floral bodice that she wore on and off as a hood. Her accessories? A bright red lip and white-frame sunglasses with long eyelashes.
Then, RiRi ditched the hood, exposing her framed growing baby bump, which she first revealed during her SuperBowl performance. She adorned her neck with layers of diamond chokers and wore long white fingerless gloves with the spaghetti-strap gown.
