According to the outlet, New Iberia Police Department Sergeant Daesha Hughes shared that authorities are investigating the “suspicious” death of the unidentified female Arby’s employee.
“The New Iberia Police Department responded to the business of Arby’s located on East Admiral Doyle Drive at approximately 6.20pm in reference to a body found inside of a freezer. The death is suspicious and being investigated.”
Additionally, authorities say the victim’s cause of death has not been determined. However, foul play is not suspected as it may have been accidental.
New Iberia Police Capt. Leland Laseter reportedly explained further.
“A situation like this is unusual, so we’re taking extra precautions during the investigation… (We) pretty much have completed our process at the crime scene. After completely processing the crime scene — this does not seem like a homicide, it seems like an accident.”
According to the outlet, authorities await the coroner’s autopsy to identify the victim and her cause of death.
The police captain also confirmed this information, as reported by KADN.
“We’re going to re-examine all the evidence tomorrow and they’re going to conduct an autopsy to give us the cause and manner of death. So there are a few more steps that we need to take before a (final) determination is made.”
