Lil’ Wayne’s newest release, “Funeral,” has been officially named number one on the Billboard 200 Chart. Today (Feb 9th), Billboard announced the industry vet has just landed his fifth number one album.
The site stated,
“Funeral is the fifth leader for Lil Wayne, and it enters with 139,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Feb. 6, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. “
This latest release follows Wayne’s Tha Carter V album that was released in 2018. This is also his 12th top 10 album to make the charts. He first hit the Billboard 200 just over 20 years ago, on the list dated Nov. 20, 1999, when Tha Block Is Hot debuted and peaked at No. 3, also according to Billboard.
In an interview, the rapper stated that he has about 20 unreleased albums.
“That’s always beautiful to look back at the finished product and what we came out with, what we ended up with,” the 37-year-old rapper stated. He continued, “And also, the results of the finished product is always rewarding, as well. I have beautiful fans. But my fans all, they also know that once it’s put out, they already know I’m moving on. They already know I got 20 more albums already in my back pocket.”
Wayne’s latest release contains 24 songs with features from Big Sean, Take Off, 2 Chainz, and more.
The 38-year-old rapper first came on the scene in 1991, as the youngest member of Cash Money Records, created by Birdman and Slim.
