If it’s one thing Lil Nas X is gonna do, he’s gonna put on a show that is guaranteed to have everyone talking. Last night he hit the stage and performed his controversial song ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name.)’ During the performance, he and his dancers embraced their inner Michael Jackson, as the performance resembled MJ’s iconic music video to ‘Remember the Time.”
Nas and his multitude of dancers ate up the choreography and left no crumbs! There were no technical issues with this performance. If you recall, during his last performance of the song in May on ‘Saturday Night Live,’ he ripped his pants. While his moves were on point, it was the ending of the performance that had him trending on Twitter. Nas locked lips with one of his dancers, and the rest was history.
There was a mix of reactions online. One Twitter user tweeted, “Lil Nas X gave Britney 2003 VMAs with that kiss. Controversy queen.” Another tweeted, “Lil Nas X kissed that man at the BET Awards AND on a Sunday… good for him. I know the homophobes are SCRAMBLING.” Nas took the time to respond to a few negative commenters online to address the backlash after one Twitter user called him out for using African culture and disrespecting the ancestors in his performance. Nas responded by tweeting, “Y’all really like to pretend homosexuality didn’t exist in African culture.”
However, an unlikely person decided to show Nas some love on Twitter. Diddy commended Nas for his performance and living in his truth. In addition, he showed Queen Latifah love for receiving the BET ‘Lifetime Achievement Award.” Once again, Nas responded, “WHAT” to the tweet, seemingly in shock.
Roomies, what did yall think of the performance?
