On last week, Lil Nas X made headlines for his controversial ‘Satan Shoes’ and video to his hit single, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).” On Monday, he was also in the news, but this time it was because his latest single reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
The artist took to Twitter and wrote, “y’all told a 19 year old who had just escaped the lowest point of his life that he would never have a hit again. you told him to stop while he’s ahead. he could’ve gave up. but 4 multi platinum songs and 2 #1’s later, he’s still here. thank you to my team and my fans! ily.”
Shortly after the tweet, he posted a video that he made for his future self. In part, he said, “I want to say I’m proud of you. Congratulations, you deserve all the good shit that’s happening to you right now.”
As previously reported, Lil Nas X partnered with MSCHF to customize the Air Max 97s that allegedly feature a drop of human blood–for trademark and infringement and asked a judge in its suit to block the sale of the shoes.
Lil’ Nas X took to Twitter to air his grievances about the matter. He tweeted, “I haven’t been upset until today, i feel like it’s f**ked up they have so much power they can get shoes cancelled. Freedom of expression gone out the window. But that’s gonna change soon.”A Twitter commenter responded to him and said he “ripped off their design and logo.” The commenter also said, “Everyone knows that’s illegal.”
Lil Nas X responded, “people make customs all the time, it’s never been a problem. Nike only stopped the sell of the shoe because a powerful group of people pushed them to do so.”
The shoe worth $1,018, sold out of the 666 pairs within minutes, but due to the restraining order, MSCHF will not be allowed to ship them to customers awaiting the shoe.
