One week ago, Chicago rapper Lil Durk dropped his album “The Voice,” and ever since, fans have been streaming. The album cover, which pays homage to the late rapper King Von, features 6lack, Young Thug, YNW Melly, and Booka600.
Since the album was released, Durk has had to clap back at people who have been hating on his album sales. Tuesday, Tekashi 6ix9ine took a jab at his projected album sales via DJ Akademiks’ Instagram post. He also accused Durk of exploiting Von’s death for his own personal gain. 6ix9ine commented, “Used Von name for sales. Is NOT blackballed has all industry support. 55k and his man were caught in 4K #KingVon REST IN PISS.”
Durk responded on his Instagram story, “80k first week with 5hrs promo. Stop playing with the voice #DOIT4VON”. Akademiks has been following Durk’s album sales since December 26th and gave fans an update on Twitter. He tweeted, “‘The Voice’ is on pace to sell 55K in his first full week of sales. He dropped his album on a Tuesday, which did 25K in 2 days of sales for last week’s charts. This means in his first 9 days of sales. He’s on pace to sell 80K w/ this album.”
Akademiks gave fans an update of Durk’s numbers Wednesday, tweeting, “The second week, Lil Durk ‘The Voice’ is on pace to sell 55K still. CONTEXT: Btw this is sales from 1 day of tracking, which is Thursday. The new week begins on Friday, but technically his first chart appearance with the album will have 1 day of sales. Next week charts will have a full week of tracking for him. Lil Durk ‘The Voice’ sells 23K first week.”
Durk seemingly responded to the backlash on his Instagram story. He wrote, “Trenches behind me. That’s all I need. I did 23k in one 1day, not the first week. Cap.” Roomies, what are your thoughts?
