2020 has been a hard year for all of us, even celebrities. With mental health issues constantly rising, many are speaking out about their struggles. Today “Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta” star and rapper LightSkinKeisha opened up about her struggles with depression.
LightSkinKeisha tweeted, “Depression is real.” She continued in a now-deleted tweet, “If I disappeared, I think people would be happier.” This really alarmed her fans, and they immediately flooded her comments with support. One tweeted, “Everything is going to be okay beautiful keep your head up.” Another tweeted, “I’m a mother of four fighting through it right now. Keep yo head up, pray, and seek help if need be, BUT YOU GOT THIS.”
Comments continued to roll in, and LightSkinKeisha shared another tweet to calm everyone down. She tweeted, “Thank you, everybody, for ur concerns. I would NEVER hurt myself. Sometimes I just wanna go away and need space and time to clear my mind cause sometimes things become a lot to deal with. I’m a strong person, but I have weak moments just like any human being. I’ll be good.”
The love and positivity didn’t stop there. Her fans continued spreading love and positivity. Another tweeted, “Depression is very real; sadly, some people don’t take it seriously. Hoping you get better.”
According to the CDC, the COVID-19 pandemic has been associated with mental health challenges related to the morbidity and mortality caused by the disease and mitigation activities. This includes the impact of physical distancing and stay-at-home orders. Depression looks different on everyone. However, symptoms of anxiety disorder and depressive disorder have drastically increased considerably in the United States during April–June of 2020.
