There was a lot going on surrounding Showtime’s hit series “The Chi,” as they finished out their second season. As many of you already know, Jason Mitchell, one of the stars of the show will not be a part of the upcoming third season after he was accused of inappropriate behavior.
Nonetheless, the show must go on and the show is now in production for its third season with some familiar faces joining the cast, and also a new showrunner.
According to Deadline, Lala Anthony, Luke James, and Lil Rowery have all landed recurring roles on the hit series. In the upcoming season, Luke James will play the role of Victor “Trig” Taylor, “Jake’s estranged older brother who wants to reunite his fractured family, but takes an unconventional approach.”
Meanwhile, Lala will play the role of Dominique “Dom” Morris, “a savvy businesswoman with dreams of more lucrative opportunities.” Lil Rel will step into the role of Zeke Remnick, “the owner of Sonny’s building who cares less about the community than the bottom line.”
Aside from gaining new cast members, writer Justin Hillian has been named the new showrunner for the third season. As we previously reported, the former showrunner Ayanna Floyd Davis exited the show after she released a statement about Lena Waithe, the show’s creator, knowing about the allegations against Jason Mitchell.
Back in May, Ayanna said in her statement, “When I took the helm in season two, it was Lena who informed me of the issues between Jason Mitchell and Tiffany Boone from season one, and that Tiffany was thinking of leaving the show because of it. As a result of this information, I discussed Tiffany’s claims with the studio’s HR department and set up HR presentations for the writers, cast, and crew. Ultimately, everyone was well aware of Jason’s behavior and his multiple HR cases, including Lena, the creator and an executive producer of the show, who is very involved at the studio and network level.”
Roommates, are you looking forward to the upcoming season of “The Chi”
