La La Anthony has revealed why she hasn’t changed her last name despite her divorce from Carmelo Anthony.
According to Page Six, La La appeared as a speaker on a panel at Fanatics Fest in New York City on Saturday, August 17. During her time on the panel, La La reportedly “gushed” about the basketball career of her and Melo’s 17-year-old son, Kiyan.
Furthermore, amid her sentiments, La reportedly revealed that Kiyan’s success is “part of the reason” she’s kept her last name as “Anthony.”
“The moment of being able to buy Kiyan’s NBA jersey will be crazy,” the panel’s moderator, Taylor Rooks, reportedly told La La.
In response, La shared:
“That’s why I haven’t changed my last name yet. I’m gonna keep it around for a little while!”
According to Page Six, La La and Carmelo tied the knot in 2010 after dating for seven years. In 2017, the pair announced their separation before briefly reuniting. In June 2021, La La reportedly filed for divorce from Melo, per The Shade Room. The pair’s official split arrived two months before the former Knicks star welcomed a child with a woman named Mia Burks, per BCK Online.
Despite this, La and Melo have both remained a united support system for Kiyan. In 2022, the pair went viral for sitting alongside one another during one of their son’s games in London, per The Shade Room.
Most recently, Kiyan has shown his gratitude for his mother’s support in a special way. In July, the 17-year-old showed off a massive portrait of La La, which he got tattooed on his arm, per Complex.
“Dear Mom, you continuously put me before yourself. You are my why. I thank God for you every day,” messaging under the portrait reportedly reads.
Earlier this month, Carmelo popped out with his son front row at the 2021 Paris Olympics.
Additionally, the former NBA star has also been spending time with his daughter Genesis. Earlier this month, Melo popped out at the 7-year-old’s Knicks-themed birthday party.
