Just days after he was sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison, Kodak Black was hit with two additional weapons charges that could cost him more time.
The Miami Herald reports the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s office formally charged Kodak with two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon today.
If convicted on these new charges, Kodak could serve up to 30 years in prison on each count as a “habitual violent offender.”
According to court documents filed today, prosecutors filed one count for a gun purchased by Kodak in January; he returned the following month to pick up the gun. The second charge stemmed from a gun found on Kodak when he was taken down in May at Rolling Loud.
He remains in federal custody after he was sentenced Wednesday to 45 months in prison on weapons charges, which was actually lower than the maximum 10-year sentence he was facing.
As we previously reported, the state of Florida had recommended Kodak receive 8 to 10 years in prison after he plead guilty in August to lying on a background form when he purchased handguns. He did the same thing a second time in attempt to buy more guns just months later.
The government argued Kodak be sentenced to 8 years, alleging he was involved in a prison fight that left one prison guard in a hospital. The judge rejected that recommendation, after further evidence proved Kodak was “under the influence of a controlled substance” when he attacked the guard.
The guard is reportedly still in the hospital awaiting surgery, and other guards were called to subdue Kodak and get him back into his cell.
As we previously reported, Kodak was arrested on May 11th, right before he was set to perform at Rolling Loud in Miami. Authorities found both of his handguns during previous arrests, one back in January and one in April. Kodak was reportedly found with eight grams of marijuana and his handgun while crossing the Canada-U.S. border.
As of now, Kodak’s camp has no words, but he took to Instagram asking his followers and fans to hold it down for him!
“Hold it down while I’m on lock. Calling shots from the box #Literally”
