Khloé Kardashian has stepped up to help Tristan Thompson with his 17-year-old brother, Amari Thompson, during their time of need. While reflecting on this, Khloé revealed that helping Lamar Odom, her ex-husband, during his coma gave her “the tools” to help with Amari.
During the last few minutes of Thursday’s (Oct. 12) new episode of The Kardashians, Khloé and Tristan chit-chatted as Amari napped in his wheelchair.
In a confessional interview, Khloé acknowledged that Amari requires “24-hour care,” noting that he and Tristan were better off staying at her place as opposed to a hotel while Thompson’s home undergoes repairs.
“Of course, Tristan could’ve gone to a hotel, but his brother needs a lot of full-time, 24-hour care with the help of nurses and medical staff. And a hotel isn’t really a good place for that. And I love him and want the best for him.”
Speaking on Amari’s condition, Kardashian suggested they’re trying to figure the situation out as it unfolds.
“Amari has epilepsy… one of the most severe types of epilepsy. So, there’s no playbook — there’s no rulebook. We don’t know what the hell we’re doing.”
Clarifying, she pointed out, “I say ‘we’ because I am on all his medical stuff for Amari.”
Later, Khloé Kardashian said she was “overwhelmed,” though the matter was “nothing that [she] can’t handle.” Expanding on this, she shared that her experiences helping ex-husband Lamar Odom during his coma in late 2015 “equipped [her] with the tools” to help Amari.
“I don’t know if this sounds really dark, and I don’t even know if anyone would understand this. … I feel like I’m equipped with the tools because of what I went through with Lamar, who couldn’t walk, who was bedridden, who couldn’t speak for months.”
While chatting with Tristan, Khloé recounted Lamar later, saying he could hear her in his unconscious state.
“When he was able to talk, he would say, ‘I heard everything you would say. I would try to talk to you.’ And I was like, ‘I knew it.’ So, like, who knows how much Amari knows?”
Khloe’s commentary ended with a producer asking if she was “prepared for” the shifts that’ll come “when Tristan moves out.” In response, Kardashian declared, “I don’t know.”
The in-episode commentary aired shortly after Tristan Thompson gained temporary custody of Amari, as The Shade Room reported.
Tristan was officially granted temporary custody last month. PEOPLE noted that, per court documents, Thompson had received “all powers a parent having legal custody of a child would have.”
This development came on the heels of Tristan and Amari’s mother, Andrea Thompson, passing away.
After the funeral, Khloé paid tribute to Andrea.
Tristan later broke his silence as well with an emotional Instagram post. At one point in his lengthy caption, Tristan said he would ensure that Amari was “taken care of.”
“Mommy, Amari is going to be taken care of. I’ll protect him, love him &do anything in the world to make sure he’s ok.”
