#Roommates, one of the most in-demand civil rights attorneys is getting the documentary treatment. According to new reports, “Black-ish,” “Grown-ish” and “Mixed-ish” creator Kenya Barris is set to produce a documentary about Benjamin Crump in conjunction with his $100 million-dollar deal with Netflix.
@HollywoodReporter just announced that Kenya Barris is on board to produce a feature-length documentary for Netflix about Benjamin Crump, the civil rights attorney that represented the families of victims of police violence, including George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and Trayvon Martin.
The documentary will provide an in-depth look on Benjamin Crump’s journey as a civil rights attorney and also thoroughly examine his current cases—specifically highlighting the distinct nature of his work, his impact on American civil rights and racial justice, and the toll such work takes on him and his family.
Widely considered a trailblazer in his law field, Crump first gained national recognition while representing the family of Trayvon Martin following his death at the hands of George Zimmerman. Additionally, over the last few months, he has been more in-demand than ever due to the current state of police violence and racial injustice.
Kenya Barris will produce the as-yet-untitled documentary through his Khalabo Ink Society production company, which has a massive first-look deal with Netflix that was initially announced last year. This will mark Kenya’s second project underneath his Netflix deal, following “Black AF,” which was recently renewed for a second season.
