Kendrick Lamar Releases Music Video For ‘Not Like Us’
The video was up for only 50 minutes, and Lamar had already collected 1.2 million views. Now, 14 hours in, it’s up to 12.9 million views and over 158,000 comments.
The visual begins with a teaser from another song and quickly transitions to a scene of Lamar knocking on a door. A clown that appears to be the legendary Tommy the Clown answers the door and asks, “What’s the password.” Lamar whispers, “I see dead people.” The upbeat track begins after Tommy hits the play button. A room is filled with Krumpers seated in two rows, and Lamar is sitting in the middle. They all sway from side to side as the 37-year-old raps.
Another scene shows Kendrick in a darkly lit setting. A man in a ski mask creeps up behind the entertainer, but he is suddenly flung backward into the air and out of frame.
Furthermore, there is a scene of Kendrick doing push-ups and rapping in an aesthetic jail cell, “Say Drake, I hear you like ’em young, you bet not ever go to cellblock one.” Additionally, a different scene shows a large crowd of people standing closely together, loudly yelling the hook, “They don’t like us, they don’t like us, they don’t like us.”

Kendrick Features His Family In The Video
Lamar highlighted several dancers in addition to the Krumpers and his family in the video. A woman with cornrows danced in Tam’s restaurant as he chilled with DJ Mustard at a table. Two men brought the energy as they danced in front of and within metal crates. Kendrick himself danced past a row of well-known men in L.A., including the rapper Y.G. The ‘DNA’ rapper additionally included artistic elements like a woman c-walking in the air on a tight rope.
Moreover, the songwriter highlighted his two children and longtime partner, Whitney Alford. They stood alongside him as he rapped, “The family matter and truth of the matter, it was God’s plan to show y’all the liar.” The pair c-walked together as their children played in what appeared to be a mock living room. Lamar also cheered Alford on as she danced solo in the middle of the room.

The video ends with Lamar looking at an owl in a cage, seemingly representing Drake and his logo for his label OVO. A clip of the crowd yelling the words to the last of Kenrick’s lyrics followed.
