Kendrick Lamar rocked the Grammys with his performance and was definitely one to to remember.
He hit the stage making a political and controversial statement. Walking out in chains, he started with “The Blacker The Berry,” as men were locked in jail cells.
He transitioned and the chains were broken as he and his dancers were liberated to “Alright.”
Lamar proclaimed “I’m African-American, I’m African. I’m black as the moon, heritage of a small village. My hair is nappy, my d–k is big, my nose is round and wide, you hate me don’t you?”
Lamar also shared a new verse about the death of Trayvon Martin. “On February 26th, I lost my life, too. Sent us back 400 years. This is modern day slavery,” he raps.
After getting a whopping 11 nominations he took home 5 awards for best rap album, rap performance, rap song, rap/sung collaboration and music video. Lamar received a lot of support and praise from his peers and even a shoutout from The White House!!
Just last week Beyoncé’s Super Bowl half-time show caused major controversy over her Black Panther’s tribute during “Formation.” Now with Kendrick’s artistic and electrifying Grammy set, Black History Month is shaping out to be a month to remember!
