TSR Politics: It’s not too surprising that Trump, nor his talking heads, couldn’t stir away from controversy on this national holiday. Trump’s aide Kellyanne Conway said Dr. Martin Luther King Jr would be against Trump’s impeachment.
Conway was talking to reporters on Monday, after explaining Trump’s lack of observation for MLK Day, saying the impeachment proceedings are tearing the country apart and claims that’s exactly the kind of divisiveness that Dr. King opposed.
MLK’s son, Martin Luther King III quickly spoke out about Conway using his father’s name and said that while Dr. King would not want to divide the country, he would never stand in the way of reprimanding anyone for “thinking they’re above the law,” according to TMZ.
Conway said MLK would not be happy with the impeachment trial because he didn’t envision having “Americans dragged through a process where the president is not going to be removed from office, is not being charged with bribery, extortion, high crimes or misdemeanors.”
Earlier, Conway claimed that Trump was not as observant of Martin Luther King Jr. Day because he’s preparing for his impeachment hearing.
But Trump did make a tweet acknowledging the national holiday, which didn’t necessarily sit well with people either.
“It was exactly three years ago today, January 20, 2017, that I was sworn into office. So appropriate that today is also MLK jr DAY. African-American Unemployment is the LOWEST in the history of our Country, by far. Also, best Poverty, Youth, and Employment numbers, ever. Great!”
Leave it to Trump to make Dr. King’s day about him. Roommates, do you think Kellyanne Conway was out of line for her take on Dr. King? Let us know.
