It looks like Mr. Personality Kawhi Leonard is looking to make some coins outside of his ball playing.
The LA Clippers player has plans to trademark the phrase “What it do baby,” which he went viral for saying in a video with his former teammate Toronto Raptor Serge Ibaka after they had beat the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.
After hearing people say “what it do babyyyyy” all over social media, it seems Kawhi Leonard caught wind of the impact he has made and his company Leonard, LLC has filed to trademark the saying as well as “City views over interviews,” according to the United States Patent and Trademark website, CBS Sports reports.
As far as what he plans to do with the phrases, Kawhi wants to put them on clothing and merchandise including T-shirts, tank tops and sweatshirts.
Kawhi joins a few other celebrities who have moved to coin their popular catchphrases but only time will tell if Kawhi will be more successful than his counterparts.
Fellow NBA baller LeBron James had filed a trademark application for the popular phrase “Taco Tuesday” to be used for merchandise as well as a podcast but his application was denied.
Recently, Kylie Jenner also filed a trademark application for the phrase “rise and shine,” which she went viral for as well. The jury is still out on Kylie’s application but we’ll see if her and Kawhi will get to move forward with their requests.
We’ll keep you posted on this one, Roomies.
