Roommates, as we previously reported, Kanye West enlisted high fashion brand Balenciaga to design a tribute T-shirt for the late DMX—and now that the shirt has sold out, $1 million was reportedly raised for DMX’s family! According to reports, in just 24 hours, the $200 T-shirt Kanye West commissioned Balenciaga to design raised upwards of a million dollars, with all proceeds going to DMX’s very big family.
DMX was officially laid to rest over the weekend, courtesy of a public memorial (designed and orchestrated by Kanye West) and a private memorial with just his family and close friends. Following the moving tributes, a round of good news came in the form of Kanye’s idea to raise money for DMX’s family.
The special tribute T-shirt that Kanye’s Yeezy personally asked Balenciaga to design was an instant hit with fans who wanted to pay tribute to hip hop legend DMX. Not only did the shirt sell out, but sales were reportedly a little over $1 million.
As we previously reported, one of DMX’s last public performances, was when he showed up and performed at Kanye’s Sunday Service—so it’s fitting that Ye would decide to honor him in a special way, while also doing his part to help his family.
The public memorial was held at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, with a private one that happened the following day at Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn.
