As Kanye West continues to occupy his 2019 with bringing his popular Sunday Service sessions all across the country, the musical selections get even better. Many fans were happy to hear the gospel spin his choir recently put on the Destiny’s Child hit song, “Say My Name.”
Kanye West’s latest stop for his Sunday Service performance was at Joel Osteen’s megachurch in Houston, which had thousands in attendance and millions watching via live stream. There were an impressive collections of songs, including Ye’s Grammy-winning hit “Jesus Walks” and songs from his current chart-topping album “Jesus Is King.” However, the song that got the most attention was the gospel remix of the Destiny’s Child 1999 song “Say My Name.”
If you’ve ever watched or attended any of Kanye’s Sunday Service performances, you know that the choir often remixes popular R&B songs and gives them a gospel flair. For “Say My Name,” the title was changed to “Call My Name” and the lyrics reflected the religious influence that Kanye has been bringing to the masses all year.
There was also a gospel rendition of SWV’s classic hit “Weak” and a thoughtful shout-out to inmate Rodney Reed, who recently was granted a stay of execution and granted an appeal in his case that was championed by millions, including Kanye’s wife, Kim Kardashian West.
As for what’s next for Yeezy? Well, he recently made his return to Twitter by posting a picture of himself and Dr. Dre in the studio…and teasing a part two to “Jesus Is King.”
Roommates, what are your thoughts on this?
